The Middle
They stood together in the rain, watching each other's eyes as little drops of water streaked down their cheeks. "What is it?" she asked. "What do you want?" Her eyes blurred, but she couldn't tell if it was from the rain or her tears. She knew the answer before he said anything. "I can't do this anymore," he whispered. She heard her heart shatter. "Tell me," she said. He looked at her. Her face was like an open book, completely bare, completely vulnerable. "I never loved you," he said without breaking eye contact. He lied to her. She ran away and never looked back.
He hated himself
But
He loved her more.
